“I hear what you’re saying but are you telling me that Sarah is into the same stuff you are? Like, is she saved too? What happened to her life? If Christ is supposed to change lives, He sure failed with her. If this great salvation is the ‘be all and end all’ thing – it sure didn’t do much for her! She’s no different than anybody else here on campus.”

It can’t get any darker. Surrounded by multiple troubles; abandoned by those who should care; overwhelmed by despair and to make matters worse – there’s no end in sight. It’s been like this forever it seems - well, at least longer than you care to remember. The tunnel is narrow and black with heavy air and claustrophobic. You feel like screaming. Could this really be life for someone who believes in God and prays to God? Could a Christian ever feel this way?

It almost seems cruel. The monkey loves that particular nut – he’d do anything to get it. The crafty person drops the attractive nut into a long neck bottle. The monkey shoves in his arm, opens up his hand to clutch the appealing nut but now there’s a problem. His fist is too big to pull it back out through the narrow neck. Either he must let the nut go and stop clinging to it – or he’s trapped and will no longer enjoy freedom. The monkey-hunter’s trap was successful.

“Tammy, why would you bother taking your kids to that,” Cheryl asked. “After all, what interest do they have in saying goodbye to a preacher? They’ll have horrible memories of you dragging them here and there to Christian events all the time. You’re treating them as if they are mini-Christians.”

Those three legged races at family reunions!  Did you ever get hitched up with someone much slower or much faster than you?  On your mark! Get set! Go!  About three meters into the race you fall down. Now you both are twisting and turning, trying to get loose from the rope around your legs. Forget the race. You’ve lost it by a long shot. Embarrassed, you try to explain what went wrong. Then you declare: “If I ever agree to a race like that again, I’ll make sure my partner is an equal match!!

Once they found out it definitely kills it no longer looks quite so cool. Smoking kills. Nicotine is nasty stuff and it really does a number on your lungs. Without being a medical diagnostician you can probably take a good stab at guessing which of these two lungs is the unhealthy one. Even the most amateurish commercials can make smokers look sort of cool but always only on the outside. When you get the inside scoop on smoking it is shocking. Repulsive.

“Noah dear, I’ve searched the ship high and low and I can’t find Sammy anywhere. I missed him cawing this morning.”

“It’s my fault,” Noah told his wife. “I thought I’d let Sammy out to see how things were going since the storm stopped. I wanted to see if the water levels were down enough for us to leave the ark. But the thing never returned.”

“Noah, you should have known better. The moment he found a floating dead carcass, I’m sure he’d just land on it, rip into it and have a feast. After all, Sammy’s a scavenger at heart. Just a raven.”

We are familiar with some formulas and not so acquainted with others. Often people are advised to use the KISS formula when making a public presentation. “Keep it Simple, Stupid.” Or if the advice is coming from a spouse the formula often, but not always takes on a slightly different twist: “Keep it Simple, Sweetheart.” Are you familiar with Ezra’s RSDT formula? It proved to be extremely effective in his life and yes – it was endorsed by God.

Philemon and Apphia had a non-Christian worker who let them down big time. Whether Onesimus cheated on them or stole from them we don’t know. Anyway, he takes off, heads to Rome, gets arrested, and ends up in custody. Just as God would have it, he encounters Preacher Paul who’s also in the clink. Paul’s not there because of tax evasion; or for ripping off his congregation or for DUI charges – he’s in custody for preaching Christ.

A Reason to Go On in 2008!

Paul, pack it in and call it quits! It is absolutely crazy. You’re trying to do the will of God; you’re up early and at it and you go to bed late and barely sleep at night thinking about all that awaits you. So many people are against you – even the Christians; backstabbing you every time they get a chance; running you down and slinging mud and dirt at you; falsely accusing you and everything else. The Jews are trying to kill you. The list is much longer than that. As I said, call it quits. It’s useless. It’s all in vain. You’ve lost the battle.”
