Falsely accusations; character assassination; malicious mud-slinging; twisted truths and slanted stories. It was more than a whisper campaign. The perpetrators were now boldly launching their missiles in broad daylight and one well-intentioned, godly, self-sacrificing, sincere and hard-working man was in the crosshairs of their firing artillery.

“I hate to say it, but there’s one part of my Bible I think I can justify ignoring. To me, the verses are just out of sync with society today. Some people try to read too much into the verses and give them more weight than they deserve.”

 

“Like, who cares whether I have my hair elaborately and ingeniously styled to showcase it better? And if I want to show off my body contours, I will – that’s my business. Guys just need to learn better self-control. I’ll wear skimpy tight clothing if I want to and if my cleavage or my bare belly bothers Christian men, they can turn their eyes away. It may take me a long time to pour myself into my clothing, but I like the sculpted look I see in the mirror and I feel good about myself. And I’ll wear eye-catching head coverings and pricey clothes and decorative jewelry if I want to.”

If you are a musicologist, you might think The Fab Four refers to the four boys from Liverpool, England who became a global sensation in the 1960’s. When the Beatle’s early publicist Tony Barrow coined the nickname The Fab Four, he may have thought they were the original fabulous four young men who were making their mark in society. But Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon were not the first four men to cause a sensational stir.

Somewhere along the way you’ve allowed it to become a part of your life or your home or your daily routines. You’ve grown accustomed to it. Maybe it became a part of your life rather innocently. It was no big dark scheme you had concocted in your mind nor did it seem necessarily problematic. It was definitely not a threat – in fact it seemed justifiable. “Really, it can’t be a part of the current problem. If it was, tons of others would be in the same situation I am in,” you reason. But there’s that nagging feeling that things really haven’t improved since then, so maybe it is a part of the problem.

It sounds like kids’ stuff. A fight in a pea patch. But it wasn’t just a fight in the pea patch, it was a fight over the pea patch. Still doesn’t sound like one of those ‘mother of all battles’ or a confrontation of epoch proportions. And yet, when all was said and done, it was rated years afterwards as a great victory.

A murderer; a shyster; a fraudulent scoundrel; a compulsive liar. Family tree findings are not always flattering. Some have dishonored the family name.
