I don't know whether there were any Eddie Swanson's in King Hezekiah's day or not. Eddie, a 45 year old, 5'9", 195 lbs. police officer in Chattanooga, Tennessee went to the gym with his girlfriend Mesha intending to set a world record and he did! With his hands gripping 70 lbs barbells, he reached 525 barbell curls in 60 minutes. So he made it to the Guinness Book of World Records. But there are some struggles and battles that even a bicep buster can't win.

Some characters in the Bible are more prominent than others. For some, their names pepper the pages but for others their names appear only once or twice.

Often we look at how things unfolded and are amazed to see how God worked in the circumstances of others. Why is it not quite the same way with me, I ask? I read today that famous verse: "Ask and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you..." Matthew 7:7. My immediate reaction was - "Lord, it doesn't always happen that way. Why does it not work for me?"

"ahhhh - it feels so good." A foot massage by a chiropodist or even a podiatrist. But I was reading this morning in John 13 of something far superior.

The Gospel Outreach Team was coming together. The Apostle Paul could have said something like this: "Sopater, Aristarchus and Secundus, welcome to the team. I am also glad to have Gaius and Timothy along with Tychicus and Trophimus with us. Luke, our team is growing. We have our work cut out for us. We're not called the GO Team for nothing! Our ship will be leaving dock shortly and our first stop will be Troas."

Have you ever encountered an attitude like this: "I'll do what I want to do. Nobody is going to shove me around or tell me how I should live. Christians bug me so much - they are always worried about their 't-e-s-t-i-m-o-n-y'. They are so cautious it drives me nuts. They are just out to impress people." Such an attitude is not common for a true believer. Maybe a professor - but a possessor of eternal life is not marked by such an attitude. 1John 5:2-3 "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."

To put it mildly, my mind can run wild. Recently a little white dog blocked the morning rush hour traffic on the main drag into our town. It was hilarious watching from our window. Agitated drivers, rushing to work, craned their necks to see what was causing the delay. As far as we could see, the traffic piled up. Meanwhile, before our eyes, a frantic and panicking little yapper of a dog wildly darted in every direction. People climbed out of their cars, certain that they could calm the pup or catch it or chase it - or do something. But to no avail. All their strategies failed. Finally a police cruiser arrived and the frantic, darting dog was stopped and the traffic started to move.
