“Are you still living in that era? You still think there’s something wrong with that? You poor thing! I remember when we were ‘there’ too. But then we saw the light. We said: ‘Why are we living like this? This is bondage. We’re shackled Christians. Life is short. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Go with your heart. If Christ sets you free – you’re free. We’re walking in the Spirit and doesn’t it say somewhere in Galatians to dig in your heels against ever getting caught up again in yokes that restrict us. We aren’t to be all tied up in knots in slavery over what we can or can’t do in life.’”

Statistics gathered by Christian-based organizations, suggest that more than one Christian male and female reading this just now is struggling with a deep secret. It may have started long ago – before the days of the internet. Secret immoral trysts in moments of weakness and protected by anonymity. Or the problem may have taken root more recently. But as you read this, you are not only battling surges of guilt and grief, you are literally frightened by the grip it has on you.

The problem was huge. It looked like there was no way the two could ever be on speaking terms again. Yes there are always two sides to the story – this one too. One side of the story is: she did absolutely nothing to cause the aggravation. She was generous and kind to a fault. That’s one side. The other side of the story is: he was so selfish! He rudely and defiantly did what he did and went out the door and it closed behind him.

You’re a good Christian. Of course, you don’t blast it out over a megaphone. You don’t pay people to go around broadcasting your goodness or hire an agent to sing your praises. But in your heart of hearts you humbly feel you are trying to honor the Lord to the best of your ability. Sure, you are far from perfect and you’d be the first to admit it but thank God, at least you’re trying to walk daily with your Lord.

 “I was so pumped. The place was just rockin’ for the Lord. The drummer was amazing. The whole band was crazy good. Like, the lead guitarist was like an Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix. They had the whole congregation on their feet, clapping and dancing. I thought some people were going to lose it. By the end of the second song, people were shouting: ‘Praise the Lord,’ jumping up and down and laughing hysterically. The place was so alive. I had shivers. You could just feeeeeeel the Lord. You sure wouldn’t call it a dead church.”
