On-the-go, going-flat-out, rat-race, non-stop-without-a-break….are just a few phrases that describe our pace of life. Cell phones on our hips or clamped to our ears, incomplete sentences thru text messaging, Blackberry’s vibrating to alert us to incoming messages, scrambling to find an outlet to plug in the computer at the airport or coffee shop and the list goes on. Drive thru’s are too slow. Microwaves take forever. Life is one mad rush. We are busy people and super fast too! Our ancestors would be frightened if they saw us flash by – they would think we were living in a perpetual state of emergency!

“It’s absolutely false. It’s a figment of your imagination. How many times do I have to tell you! You’re dreaming. If you think I am trying to make a name for myself, you are dead wrong. You are judging me!” Euodia said.

“I’m not judging you,” Syntyche responded. “It’s obvious. Every time there is something to be done, you grab the opportunity before the rest of us get a chance. You just want all the pats on the back!”

Irritated, Euodia raised her voice a few decibels: “Give your head a shake woman! You’re losing it. They asked me if ....

Have you ever been severely disappointed with a Christian who has messed up big time? "Well, recovery or restoration is so unlikely I just figure I won't waste my time praying for her anymore. I only have a limited amount of time to pray each day so I will pray for others who are more likely to succeed. The first few times she did it, I faithfully prayed for her - but now, well - I'm fed up. I'm disgusted with her behaviour. I doubt if she will ever change. I'm not even going to bother getting my hopes up anymore. She does well for a few months and then she takes another nose dive. I am tired of being disappointed."

Things couldn’t get much worse for the Christians in Macedonia. Believers were suffering left, right and center. And it was more than minor inconveniences, little disappointments, let-downs, and mild reproach for being a Christian. Family members were being locked up by the authorities; their homes were being raided and their possessions confiscated; life’s earnings were disappearing over night; fired from their jobs; family keepsakes and heirlooms were being stolen; mothers would watch as their teenage sons were beaten and brutalized for being a christian; kidnappings; hostage-taking; psychological abuse as they were taunted and rejected for belonging to ‘Jesus’. Maybe I have used my imagination a little in describing the situation but the reality would be much worse than anything I could dream up.

Your name represents you. When your name is mentioned, people immediately think of who you are and what they know about you. A lot sooner than we think, our life will be summarized on a head stone in a cemetery. Your first, middle and last name will be there. Your date of birth and date of death will be inscribed. Perhaps a meaningful phrase or short sentence will be displayed at the bottom. But the critical part of that headstone inscription is YOUR name. I hear people warn others: “Be careful. You don’t want to get a bad name for yourself.” Do they mean a name change on your birth certificate or do they have something else in mind? Something else!!

The happiest people I know are Christians who are involved, working hard and are definitely a part of it. Some of the unhappiest people I know are on the sidelines taking potshots at those who are trying to do something. These people always know how things 'should' be done and seem to make their living just criticizing, condemning, and being negative about all that is happening.

Is there such a thing as an Ambition-o-meter? A gadget that measures not only my desire to achieve, and propelling aspirations but the underlying motivations as well. There’s no question about it, there are some driven people out there! Brenda Barnes was one of them. At 43, she was one of the highest paid female executives in North America. She was President and CEO of Pepsi’s North American Division. A new work day dawned for her every morning at 3:30. Sixteen hours later, she would try to get home to spend a few minutes with her children and husband before retiring for the night. With all of that ambition, energy, drive came financial success and considerable prestige and recognition. But was she living such a lifestyle to please herself or her little family? She resigned to raise her children.

The hardest thing for a sinner to do is to bow before God in repentance. “Oh God, I am and have been all along dead wrong. There is not one thing I can offer you from my life. I am only a sinner in urgent need of Your mercy. Please save me, O God.” Repentance is a 180 degree shift in one’s thinking and Jesus said on more than one occasion: Except you repent, you will perish. No one will ever be in Heaven without a time in their life when they repented and bowed the knee of their heart to God.
