Hopefully your days of having to perform the ‘walk the line’ procedure are behind you. Often drivers who seem to be experiencing difficulties operating their vehicle between the lines are hauled over by the police. A straight line is marked on the road and the driver is given these instructions:

Have you ever wondered how people could look at the same thing but see something totally different? Why do weather forecasters tell you there’s a 30% chance of rain tomorrow? Why don’t they say a 70% chance of radiant sunshine?

Is it okay to single out a phrase from a verse in the Bible and mull it over in your mind and enjoy it in your heart? Have you ever found that some days the chapter you are reading is heavy and not quickly digestible yet you need some quick nourishment (energy boost) before you head out for the day?

Here is an expression you can enjoy today....

Why do we honor someone by laughing when they share the smart-aleck retort they hurled back at another person earlier in the day? We don’t honor people who tell off-colored jokes by smiling. Are off-colored jokes more wrong than pejorative jabs and feisty retorts and smart-aleck comebacks?

We know it’s not a healthy sign when a Christian is money-hungry. We know dollar signs flashing in our eyes, probably means we have our eyes focused on things that are temporal – not eternal in nature. Although we don’t encourage believers to go whole-hog after the almighty dollar, yet we turn a blind eye to those who do.

What was Paul Simon referring to when he penned his lyrics – “Slip slidin away, Slip slidin away, You know the nearer your destination, The more you’re slip slidin away?”  Did he mean the closer you are to having something, the greater the disappointment will be as it eludes your reach and grasp? I could be traveling with Paul but instead I am island-bound – stuck on Crete. But while I’m here, I might as well make the best of the situation. I am sure I can find things to do. This is a spectacular little island in the Mediterranean off the coast of Greece. It has some awesome mountains – so I’ll be able to do some mountain climbing. I would love to be able to climb the tallest peak – Mt. Pachnes (2.453m). The beaches here are incredible so that will help to pass the time. Maybe, I’ll just do some mixed farming – who knows? Once I get the ‘lay of the land’ I might be able to get a little business of my own going and see it take off.”

It was going to be an outdoor event and the early morning skies were threatening. I asked the Lord to keep the rain back. It was quite a specific prayer and I meant it too. Furthermore, I sensed I prayed through! And then I turned the key in the ignition, drove to the nearest super value store and picked up a collapsible black umbrella. The Lord answered my prayer. As for my latest umbrella, well it brought my home collection up to four.

“I’ve seen this kind of thing before. I call it a flash-in-the-pan deal. Someone gets all stirred up, makes some changes in their life and fly high for about a month and then they revert back to the way they were before. I don’t get my hopes up anymore. They have been too frequently dashed in the past. Now I usually say: ‘Time will tell or we’ll wait and see.’”
