Perhaps you’re a bit ‘blue’ or discouraged. The thrill of salvation is not as intense as it once was – in fact, to be truthful you are NOT feeling ‘thrilled’ today. The joy of knowing Christ has been buried beneath the debris of your life. When you hear a new convert talk about their love for Christ and how wonderful it is to be saved, you’re almost annoyed at their excitement and inside you say: “Yeah, give it some time and you’ll feel the same way I do!” Really, you aren’t annoyed at their excitement; you’re a little bitter that you have lost your own thrill of being saved.

Have you ever thought of turning back? Don’t!!

Have you ever heard anyone say something like this: “Give me a break! There’s more to life than getting all bent out of shape over christian living issues. The Bible is supposed to inspire me, not restrict me in my choices in life. Does God really care about the nitty-gritty details of my life?”

God cares more about the nitty gritty details of my life far more than I could ever imagine and much more than I care myself. If He knows the number of hairs per square inch on your scalp and the number of tears you have wiped off your face – then you can be sure He is following your life with great interest.

Occasionally, I have been awakened by the bark of a dog, the screams of a fox or the ferocious meowing of fighting cats. When the silence of the night is broken by a howling animal, there is a certain eeriness to it but usually, I can get back to sleep quickly in my comfortable bed, safe inside our home. Even when I visit a zoo, I feel safe knowing that I am on the outside looking in. But would I want to spend a night inside their cage? Not particularly!

Sometimes it is called ‘herd instinct’, ‘pact mentality’, or ‘groupthink’. Have you ever jumped on the bandwagon? The parade is going by. One particular float holds you spellbound. The music is blasting out from the ‘bandwagon’ and the musicians are very much alive. You’ve been impatiently waiting for something more exciting than horses, clowns, and non-playing marching bands. Now here it is. Rather than running along side of the bandwagon as it moves on down the street, you hop on. There you sit on the side of the flatbed with your hands underneath your thighs, swinging your legs to the music as you are being carried down the street. That’s called ‘jumping on the bandwagon.’

How many times does it have to be said: "You can't judge a book by its cover." or "Things are rarely what they appear to be." These axioms are conventional wisdom. Everybody knows it is only common sense to gather all the facts before reaching a conclusion. If we all know it, then why do we jump to conclusions?

Some seem naturally adept at flirting. Are they really naïve and innocent? She seems to know how to lure the guys into her net. Sometimes it’s her frequent glances at you and the number of times your eyes meet; other times it’s a whisper or a walk past the target. A gesture of her hand or a nod, even a flash grin or a wink – it’s an indication that she might have an interest in you. Guys know how to do it too. Girls say: “That guy! He’s a real flirt!” He shows an interest in you. He singles you out or holds your hand a second longer than normal. He says things online that excite you and gives you hope. He plays with your affections. Or she tugs at your heart strings.

"Well, I had no choice. I had to do something. I would have said nothing, but when she blasted me out of the water for something I never did, then tough! She had it coming to her. A person can only take so much and then its time to strike back and set the record straight. That's all I did."

How I REact to the actions of others is critical.

“We’re going to have to take things into our own hands. It’s getting late and all these people are still here. It’s time to send the people home.” I wonder which disciple said it first. Perhaps another chimed in: “Definitely! Enough is enough. The only reasonable and rational thing to do now is to send the crowd back to the city and they’ll just have to fend for themselves. Some of the shops will still be open and they can grab a bite to eat in town.” Others agree. “I agree, that makes sense to me. The only food I’ve seen out here today are those five loaves and two fishes. With appetites like ours, that’s barely enough for ourselves! I’ll advise the Master to call it quits for the day, shut the thing down and disperse the crowds.”
