Who's Rooting for You?

When someone tells me they are rooting for me, I assume they are interested in my well being and my success. It's a nice feeling to know that someone is rooting for you. I was athletically challenged so I never felt the rush of having a bunch of people screaming: "Rah! Rah! Rah! Go, boy, Go!"

The first organized, recorded yell at a sporting event was at a football game in the late 1880's on an American Campus and it went like this: "Ray, Ray, Ray! Tiger, Tiger, Sis, Sis, Sis! Boom, Boom, Boom! Aaaaah! PRINCETON, PRINCETON, PRINCETON!"

Waving colorful ribbons and the repetitive chanting might give a team some encouragement, but nothing like a Christian can get from reading the Bible.

David said when the Philistines captured him:

"This I know, that God is for me."

Psalm 56:9

The greatest cheer leader of all for the Christian is the Lord. He is rooting for us. "God is for me!"  Dear Child of God latch on to this amazing and uplifting truth today. David knew that if God wasn't rooting for him, he would be swallowed up, blown away or snuffed out by his enemies.

Waving ribbons may have a psychological effect, but God does far more than wave ribbons! The goose bumps and fizz often worked up by clapping, arm waving and chanting one lined so called 'worship' songs can all be so superficial and effervescent. Beyond all the external excitement that may give us a rush of adrenalin, isn't it deeply encouraging to know He (God) is actively working for us.

But that's not all. Check out this verse:

"For God is with us."

Isaiah 8:10

He is FOR me and He is WITH me (Immanuel).  How much better does it get?  You may not have many people on earth cheering you on, but when you have God right with you and rooting for you, isn't that enough? It is far more than the world has. But it doesn't even stop there. Read this:

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus,

the great shepherd of the sheep,

by the blood of the eternal covenant,

equip you with everything good that you may do his will,

working in us

that which is pleasing in his sight,

through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

(Hebrews 13:20-21)

To live this day knowing that my Heavenly Father is intensely interested and actively involved in my life gives me a rush that isn't available from any other source! So much for the fleeting thrills of the cheers of this world.

"Lord, help me to not obstruct or hinder Thee in any way from fully working in my life and through my life today."

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.

Warmly in Christ
