Were you satisfied with the amount of time you were able to spend reading and studying your Bible over the past twelve months? Few of us will say ‘yes’. If that’s the case, how would you like 2009 to be different? Things just don’t happen. Progress happens by design. In fact, the chances of you spending more time in the Word of God in 2009 are slim – unless you make concrete plans to increase your intake of the Scriptures.

In just a little while the Name of Jesus will no longer be used as a swear word. Soon there will be no mockers blasting out their ridicule of the Christian faith. In the not too distant future every enemy, adversary, mocker and blasphemer of Christ will be silenced and judged.

Mike: “It’s the big game of the season. If I buy the ticket will you change your mind and come?”

Josh: “No, I’m not really interested.”

Sara: “What do you mean you are cancelling your subscription to ‘Luxurious Lifestyles & Living’? You were the one that put me on to that publication – and now you have cancelled yours? Let me sign you up again.”

“Josh: “No, I’m not really interested.”

Mentor: trusted counselor or guide.

“Oh my! This sounds suspicious. I don’t like the sound of ‘programs’. We don’t read of programs in Scripture. It sounds too ‘churchy’ and too ‘secular’ for me. It reminds me of one of those packages you buy off a store shelf and there’s not a breath of God in any of it!”

Putting God first in your life is the only way to go. Anything less than that is to fritter your short life away, focusing on things that will become insignificant in the miss of a heartbeat. That’s right – 60 seconds after your heart stops beating, the big and important matters of life will be totally insignificant. The only thing that will count then is the extent to which you lived your life for God and the level of intimacy you enjoyed with Christ.

“Catch her! She looks like she is going to faint. Get her a chair quickly! Is it fatigue or could it possibly be a hypoglycemic reaction? She needs to sit down. Should we call the palace doctor or have the paramedics assess her?”

Most who came through her doors were lacking morally pure intentions. Her dark business was prostitution and her life revolved around her trade. Day after day she sold herself to men who sacrificed their character and jeopardized their reputation for a moment of sinful pleasure. Sheepishly with guilt her clients left her house with their heads down, trying not to attract attention to themselves.

Do you consider yourself a happy and contented Christian? Or are you always tripping over your lip about something? Are you satisfied or unsatisfied – always hoping for more? What is the source of your joy and contentment?

What’s Your Luminous Intensity?

Okay you engineers, don’t get all bent out of shape if the usage of this term isn’t technically correct. Most of us don’t understand the difference between luminous intensity, luminous flux or illuminance. In street language the question is: how bright is your light?

Fishing – yes. Pleasure sailing, sightseeing and transportation – yes. Over the centuries boats have been used for a variety of purposes. With the exception of tubing, skiing and wake boarding, the purpose of boats has been fairly consistent over the years.
