Monday Meditations

The ultimate goal of redemption is to make us worshipers. The Lord Jesus Christ said: “…True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” (John 4:23 ESV)

Worship, while difficult to define, is the result of being occupied with Christ - His person and work.

This weekly meditation is prepared by Dr. Sandy Higgins. Its purpose is to give believers truth to think about and develop in their own minds and hearts throughout the week. Ultimately, as the week progresses, daily worship will result in hearts full of adoration for the Lord Jesus on the Lord's Day (Sunday) as believers gather to remember Him.

Dr. A.J. Higgins is the Editor of the Christian magazine, Truth and Tidings and is well known in many parts of the world for his relevant and clear Bible teaching. He lives in New Jersey with his wife Ruth.

Monday Meditation

July 06, 2009

From the desk of Dr. A.J. Higgins - www.heaven4sure.com

"God ...  hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son Whom He appointed heir of all things, by Whom also He made the world."

Hebrews 1:1-2

Three great truths are emphasized in this majestic introduction to Hebrews:

The Finality of God's message - God has nothing beyond Christ. He once spoke and revealed Himself in part to different prophets and through different means; but He has spoken finally and totally in the Son.

The Certainty of all His Purposes - Christ is the heir. God has so decreed and established it. Everything the Hebrew believers looked for was secured by the heir of all things. They lost nothing and gained everything in receiving Christ.

The Centrality of Christ - the word "worlds" could also be translated "ages." God has been working in every age with this great purpose - the honor of His Son

Questions for consideration:

1. Think of how God was pointing men forward to Christ in every age. If everything resolves around Christ, if the ages all were designed to reveal some portion of His glory, think about how each age pointed forward to Him.

2.  God speaks "in Son." It is as though this is the language in which God spoke to man. In Revelation, the Lord Jesus is the alpha and omega or the alphabet of God; in John 1 He is the Word or the message; here in Hebrews 1 He is the very language which God speaks. What does this suggest?

3.  Sonship always precedes heirship (Galatians 4:7). If His appointment of heir of all was in eternity, what does that teach about His Sonship?
