THINKING ABOUT FOREVER

Personal Testimony of
Jon Procopio Jr.

tn_JonProJr Florida 082006.jpg

Before I trusted Christ as my Saviour I was always afraid of my sins, scared that I would have to pay for them for eternity. I hated to think about eternity, I hated the thought that I would have to answer to God one day.

I would lie in my bed at night and HOPE Jesus did not come back and take my family and leave me to an eternity in hell. At times I even thought that He HAD come and I can still remember the panic and cold-sweat that came over me as I considered receiving exactly what I deserved for all I had done.

I knew the gospel so well and yet I had rejected time and time again opportunities to receive God’s Son as my personal Saviour. At times I had even come close to submitting my will and pride to accept what He had done for me yet there was always something of self that I could rationalize that I needed to do to be saved. I hated the thought about forever, forever in hell, forever in my sins, forever without God, without comfort, without those that I loved. After all, I wasn't that bad of a sinner I didn't deserve hell - not for eternity.

One night, March 23, 1995, I realized that I did deserve hell, that my sins were enough to keep me out of God's presence. No sooner had I realized that then I understood that it was for "the ungodly that
Christ died" (Romans 5:6) and I accepted Christ's work on the cross as the payment for sins that were taking me to a lost eternity. I was saved!

Now, I still think about forever, but I love it. I let my imagination go wild... "it's not entered into MY heart the things God has for those that love Him". I like the idea that when I go to bed at night the Lord may come... leaving all my projects, assignments, troubles, cares behind and taking me to where I'll be eventually... in Heaven with him.

Sometimes when life just has me down, with troubles, exams, failing health of those I love, loss of those I love... I just stop and pray "Lord now would be a good time" for Him to break through the grey clouds and take me up. Snatch me out of this world and all it has to offer to be forever with the one who loved me so much that He gave Himself for me.

It's so great to be able to read the story of a fellow born-again christian. May the Lord bless you! Many times we come upon struggles and hardships, but oh how great it is to know that "The Lord is thy keeper, the Lord is they shade upon thy right hand." Ps 121:5 . If He brought you to it, He'll bring you through it. What a comfort! Jon, continue to tell your story! It is the best story you could EVER tell!

Amen! It's great to be saved!

The love that Jesus had for me
To suffer on the cruel tree
That I a ransomed soul might be
Is more than tongue can tell!

The bitter sorrow that he bore
And O, the crown of thorns he wore
That I might live for evermore
Is more than tongue can tell

The peace I have in Him, my Lord
Who pleads before the throne of God
The merits of His precious blood
Is more than tongue can tell!

The joy that comes when He is near
The rest He gives so free from fear
The hope in Him, so bright and clear
Is more than tongue can tell!

His love is more than tongue can tell!
His love is more than tongue can tell!
The love that Jesus had for me
Is more than tongue can tell!

I'm much older than Jon and yet it's wonderful to hear the sentiments that he relates concerning the looking forward to being with the Lord. These thoughts are one with mine and all who love His appearing. One just feels it such a privilege to lie down in peace and to waken with the same anticipation that " He that shall come will come and will not tarry". Lord, hasten Thou the day!

There is a peace a contentment in knowing that all is well for eternity. It is not that Christians have any assurences that in this world everything will be fine but rather it is in knowing that The Holy Spirit will not let us bear our burdens alone and that whatever our burden may be it is only for a little time whatever pleasures we have or have not we know our future is not confined to this world but because of repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ we are assured of joy for ever more when we depart this scene. Thank you Jon for reminding us how blessed are we who trust in the Lord Jesus

Amen! Life is unsure, but heaven IS sure through Jesus Christ. Your words are wonderful to read. I liked your comment about how you used to wake up and be frightened of eternity. Raised in a Christian household, I heard about salvation from the day I was born. And yet, I held out against salvation. One night I was so frightened that the Lord had come again, that I tiptoed to the door of my parent's room just to check! When I heard them breathing, I knew He had not come yet. I was saved a short time later. Fear of an eternity in hell, in the Lake of Fire brought me to the Lord. Knowing His refuge, our heavenly home, is forever is a thought I cherish daily.

It is great to hear of how GOD speaks to each of us who are already on our way to heaven. It will be a wonderful day when we get to meet the one who died for us. Jon keep walking with your Lord!!

What a lovely experience to be with the Lord, phillipians 1:6 says that the good work that he has started in your life he will also bring it to completion. God Bless You.

Forever! To someone who is lost that word sends panic and fear but to someone who has come to know the God they have trusted in, with that word comes peace, excitment and security!
