GOD SPOKE TO ME MORE THAN ONCE

Editor's Note: You are about to read Steve Morton’s personal testimony. Steve Morton lives in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada with his wife Kim and their son Ben. Steve and Kim both trusted Christ as their personal Saviour on December 06, 2007. Recently he condensed his amazing story into a free verse poem.

As you read Steve’s story, ask yourself: do I have a story of conversion when I became a Christian? Do I have a defined moment when I embraced Jesus Christ as my Saviour and started for Heaven?

“Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to him belong
They are weak but he is strong.”

These words etched into my mind
From the time I was so very small
Sitting there on those hard ole chairs
At the Mountain Road Gospel Hall.

Oh how I recall those fine summer nights
When all my friends were outdoors playin.
How I would scream and kick and fight
Only to be told: “You’re going; you have no say!

I showed them in my later teenage years
Not gonna force no religion on me.
I shouted through my Momma’s tears
And off I went, the world I desired to see.

I was young and things were hard
There were some tough lessons to be had.
There was going to be wakeup calls in the cards
The first being losing my Dear Ole Dad.

Well life kinda smoothed out, at least for awhile
Got married, had a son, good job, things were fine.
KABOOM!!!  Was I in for life’s biggest trial
The day I almost lost this life of mine.

You see I worked for the railway
Traveling the rails and making up trains;
And while working I slipped and fell one day
Oh how fast the happiness turned to pain.

As I lay on the ground, I knew my legs were gone
Feeling life’s blood draining from my veins.
I said tell my family I love them and hug my son
As I fought so hard to hold onto life’s reins.

You may think this story is over, but it just begins.
You see God had a plan: He had spared me again.
I thanked God for giving me another chance
But onward I traveled in a world full of sin.

I bought myself a motorcycle, three wheels you see
Not holding this guy back, gonna ride and shine
Down this road in Ohio, on our bikes went my son and me
Only to meet a truck coming head-on, but again it wasn’t my time.

I then bought a house to be close to my Mother
Few weeks later she broke her hip and died.
But God’s plans were working like no other
He now had me thinking about the other side.

This one Christian man, he never failed
Always showing concern for my soul -
For over thirty years he chased my tail
Never wavering from God’s only goal.

He invited me to a series of Gospel meetings.
I only went, so I thought, as a favour to him.
Man this Preacher had my heart beating
Showed me quickly I was still living in sin.

One night as he was preaching, he took out a ten dollar bill. He said SALVATION is a gift just like this. COME AND TAKE IT!

Wow!!!! Wow!!!!  Wow!!!!

Many years I had been hung up on the words: receive, accept, believe in your heart, trust.

How do you believe in your heart? It‘s an organ that pumps blood.

Trust like you would put your trust in a chair. Well if I look at a chair, I can tell whether or not it will hold me.

Then he read from the Bible John Chapter 19, Verse 30: “IT IS FINISHED.”

For the first time I realized there was absolutely nothing I could do to get into Heaven but to take God at His Word.

His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ had done it all when He shed his blood on the cross of Calvary for MY sins.

If Christ dying on the cross was good enough for the Almighty God, then it certainly was good enough for me!

I said: “OK Lord I am Yours; do with me as You choose.  I am no more than a worthless sinner saved by grace through Your blood on the cross. You spared me from death’s door for a reason. Reveal Your plan to me. I will follow You forever.”

For God so loved the world
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosever believeth in Him
should not perish
but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Gone from darkness into eternal light: December 6, 2007

On the same day my dear wife Kim accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. Hallelujah, What a Saviour!

Just as I am -without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Just as I am-Thou wilt receive,
Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve,
Because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come!
