I do. Better still – I have it!
Corey Haim dead at 38. (1) This teen heartthrob in the 1980s (for his roles in Lucas and The Lost Boys) is now gone. No longer with us. On the other side of life. Died on March 10, 2010. It was his mother who placed the 911 call.
Not so long ago, when speaking with a British tabloid, Haim recalled the first joint he smoked back in the late 1980s. That led him to cocaine for about a year and a half, and then he moved on to crack. He went to detox from time to time for help, but drugs were doing him in. Uppers and downers were also a part of the mix. At one point, he said he was taking 85 uppers and downers a day.
At the age of 25, he went through bankruptcy. He said: “I feel like I ruined myself to the point where I wasn’t functional enough to work for anybody – even myself.”
He died without leaving enough money to bury himself.
A tragic life.
Is there a better life? Yes!
And then there is Craig Wilson’s book review on the life of Tammy Wynette. (2) Craig is a long-standing columnist for USA Today. The caption he gave his book review was: Country Star Tammy Wynette Lived a Sad Song. The snippets he picked out of Jimmy McDonough’s tell-all biography on Tammy Wynette included:
Wynette had a serious and decades-long addiction to painkillers. Sometimes, a plane would be dispatched to pick up her narcotics; other times, drugs would be FedExed in.
Her marriage to George Jones was stormy from the beginning.
She thought Burt Reynolds was going to marry her after she divorced George Jones. But it never happened. Her friend said: “It was very sad, really.”
Wynette died at 55 curled up in her favourite spot, a kitchen couch in front of the TV.
Quite a life for a country star who had seventeen #1 hits!
A sad life.
Is there a better life? Yes!
And then there is Brad Pitt. (3) Did you read his most recent comment about why he has been wearing a scraggly beard lately? When asked, he said he was doing it out of nothing more than boredom.
Boredom? A man so popular as Brad Pitt – bored? You should read some of the other things Brad Pitt has said about his life in the past.
A tragic life.
A sad life.
A bored life.
Is there a better life? Yes!
How would you rank your life on a scale of 1-10? Have you found contentment and fulfillment? Are you enjoying this life?
Why is there such brokenness in the human family? Why are people self-destructing? Why do people live such empty lives despite their best efforts to live a full life?
The Bible says our #1 problem is SIN. Romans 3:23 makes it clear – every single person on the planet has been compromised by sin. Sin keeps you from enjoying what God has for you.
Jesus said He didn’t come to destroy people’s lives but to save them! (Luke 9:56) Because of sin, people are damaged. Left to themselves, they will self-destruct. But Jesus said He came to save lost, vulnerable, fragile sinners – those who are living sad, tragic and bored lives.
Sin inside you is the culprit. Sin will also block you from a future life in Heaven. Cancer takes people to the cemetery, but sin takes people to Hell. That’s why you must have them forgiven before you die. There is complete forgiveness through Christ.
People curse Jesus. They use His name as a curse word. Maybe you have done that too. You have misunderstood Him completely. He wants to bless you. He wants to save you from yourself and your sin. He wants to give you eternal life. He really does LOVE you.
Jesus said:
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10
The Bible says:
“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…”
1Timothy 1:15
Would you like to experience a transformation in your life? Would you like to be saved? Christ is the answer.
Is there a better life? Yes!

Was Tammy Wynette a Christian?
Like other country artists, Tammy Wynette sang and recorded hymns but there will be many who sang hymns and many who sang in choirs who will never sing in heaven’s choir. I would love to think she is in Heaven, but that depends on what she did in her lifetime with Jesus Christ. As you probably know, attending a Christian church all of one’s life and singing Christians songs does not make anyone a Christian. Unless a person has a precious and personal moment when as a lost sinner they consciously trusted Christ as their Saviour, they are not a Christian. Knowing the Saviour personally is a must if someone is ever going to be in Heaven. John 14:6, Matthew 11:28 and Romans 5:6
