Years ago the acronym FMS struck me as a powerful abbreviation. The three words it represents can revolutionize a Christian’s life. FMS can catapult a discouraged and downtrodden christian into an energized, upbeat, on-fire believer. A daily dose of FMS thinking can make all the difference in a Christian’s day – the difference between black thinking and bright thoughts; between a negative outlook and a positive perspective; between a moping, sad-hearted saint and a bundle of energetic desires for the Lord. FMS is the one critical ingredient in a Christian’s life – if it is missing or becomes clouded from my view, I will faint or wallow in despair. When FMS is ringing in every chamber of my heart, then I will bounce out of bed in the morning (rather than crawl) ready to honor and serve the Lord throughout another day.

FMS ringing in every chamber of my heart? Ummm. Whose voice is ringing in my ears? Listen to this voice today: “He that findeth his life shall lose it; and he that loseth his life FOR MY SAKE shall find it.” Matthew 10:39. The words of the Lord Jesus Christ. Mark recorded it this way: “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life FOR MY SAKE and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.

If we could only hear in our hearts as we read our Bibles the whisper of the Lord Jesus:

(This is NOT a poem!)
“Dear child of Mine, can’t you do it for my sake?
Won’t you continue on in the path of obedience for my sake?
I know the road is rough. So was my life on earth for you.
But can you not keep travelling the road for my sake?

When every other signal around you seems to be saying:
‘Stop! Call it quits! Turn around! Forget it! Don’t bother!
It’s not worth it! Others aren’t – so why should you?!
Throw in the towel. Give in! Give up!’ –

When all these voices are shouting at you,
Tune in to My voice: For My Sake.
Do it for me if for no other reason.
I am watching.

I am recording everything you do for my sake.
When you are finally up here in Heaven,
You will have no regrets that you pushed forward
For my sake.”

In my mind’s eye I can see a book, a ledger in Heaven with several columns in it: Date, Name, Deed, Motive.

Saturday    Kim     Gave thanks for her food in the cafeteria            FMS
Monday     Kim     Did not laugh when the dirty joke was told.      FMS
Monday     Kim     Deleted unhelpful music from her iPod               FMS
Monday     Kim     Got up earlier to read and stay in touch with me.  FMS
Tuesday     Kim     Suffered the ridicule of friends                            FMS
Tuesday     Kim     Went to the Bible Study despite her exam.       FMS

Oft times the day seems long, our trials hard to bear,
We’re tempted to complain, to murmur and despair;
But Christ will soon appear to catch His Bride away,
All tears forever over in God’s eternal day.

Refrain
It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,
Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ;
One glimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,
So bravely run the race till we see Christ.

This is really encouraging to me and I’m sure it is for every one else who reads it. Now whenever I dont feel like doing something I just think of ‘FMS’ and i press on…
