Monday Meditations

The ultimate goal of redemption is to make us worshipers. The Lord Jesus Christ said: “…True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” (John 4:23 ESV)

Worship, while difficult to define, is the result of being occupied with Christ – His person and work.

This weekly meditation is prepared by Dr. Sandy Higgins. Its purpose is to give believers truth to think about and develop in their own minds and hearts throughout the week. Ultimately, as the week progresses, daily worship will result in hearts full of adoration for the Lord Jesus on the Lord’s Day (Sunday) as believers gather to remember Him.

Dr. A.J. Higgins is the Editor of the Christian magazine, Truth and Tidings and is well known in many parts of the world for his relevant and clear Bible teaching. He lives in New Jersey with his wife Ruth.

ETERNALLY SECURE

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”

Romans 8:35

Paul, with his usual rigorous logic, has been building his case for the absolute security of the believer. He piles argument upon argument. He goes back to a past eternity (vv 28-30) and divine purposes. They guarantee ultimate glorification. He moves to the cross of Christ (vv 31-32) and demonstrates that the gift of the Son is the guarantee of the removal of all charges.

He comes to the debating center and silences every opposing voice (v 32). Next, he moves into the courtroom (vv 33-34) to show that the believer stands without charge or even a crime. In the arena of life’s trials he can find nothing that can separate a believer from Christ (vv 35-36).

Finally, as though to challenge the heavens, earth, and hell, he asserts that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. An angel once separated a man from God – Adam from God. But never again. Such is the worth of the person of Christ, that all is eternally secure.

Questions to Consider

1.  Think of all the things which Paul brings together in verses 38-39: dimensions, time, the spirit world, humanity, and life circumstances. Why do you think he brings all these together in these verses?

2.  “More than conquerors” (v 37). It is a great accomplishment to be a conqueror. But what does it mean to be “more than” a conqueror? Who did the fighting? Who enjoys the victory?

3.  “I stand persuaded” and will never change my mind (the force of Paul’s words.) What made Paul so absolutely sure? Was his confidence warranted?
