Some flip burgers every day. Others drive giant earth-moving machines. Then there are automotive technicians, hair stylists, programmers, consultants, accountants; teachers; clerks and chefs; chemists and geologists; sales representatives and carpenters. The list is endless. But wherever you work, there is an organizational structure.

In larger operations, the organizational chart will be found inside an online employee manual. All the layers from top to bottom, from the boss to the frontline workers, are mapped out. They look like pyramids. In smaller businesses, it may not be in writing, but all the workers know where they fit and who their boss is and who has the final say.

One of the most complex organizational structures in the world is the US Military which extends from the soldiers on the front lines – all the way up to the Commander-in-Chief, the President of the United States. Massive and complex!

But you need to know there’s an army that dwarfs the US Military. In fact, it makes the armies of the world look like wispy wimps and weaklings. We learn from the Bible that a massive and complex organizational structure rules and manages this age’s present darkness. It’s invisible but very real. Satan is its original and longstanding Commander-in-Chief. This is not a piece of fiction, nor is it a fable. Read this:

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesian 6:12

Even today’s most sophisticated technology cannot pick up by radar or detect by satellite, stealth drones or heat sensing equipment, the unseen ancient military of darkness. But just because we can’t see it does not make it less real. These invisible soldiers of darkness wield frightening power.

Every day and night, we’re surrounded by dark demonic invisible forces who are actively fighting against God, against Christ and against every believer who is seeking to live for Christ. These wicked spirit beings take no breaks. There are no lulls or ceasefires in the battle. They don’t give up. And they have a vast arsenal of weapons and countless strategies for every situation.

What should you do? Shake, shiver and retreat and go into hiding as a Christian? Should you cower in fear and remain in the shadows and keep your light hidden so no one will know you belong to Christ?

Should you buy into conspiracy theories and promote things online that reek of paranoia and suggests to others that you are one of those who see a boogeyman in every corner? Constant messaging like “we’re under siege” and “the sky is falling” is a negative and dark defeatist way to live your Christian life. Those who dwell and constantly harp on the latest societal evidence that ‘dark forces’ are conspiring to beat them can render the Gospel undesirable to those in their orbit. That’s not the testimony or public witness a Christian should have online or in the community! What’s hopeful, attractive or triumphant about that type of behaviour?

Dear Child of God, here’s how God expects us to frame this reality:

  1. Understand the reality exists. There ARE dark forces constantly working to bring you down and wreck your life and testimony for Christ.
  2. No Christian can stand against the forces of darkness on their own strength, willpower and determination.
  3. Our ability to stand is directly proportionate to the closeness of our daily intimacy with Christ.
  4. Take Christian-living very seriously.  Living for Christ requires effort and constant daily attention. (1Peter 5:6-9) Pray: “Deliver us from evil itself – the evil one and the evil thing.” Matthew 6:13
  5. Full (not partial) protection and full power are available to you to hold your ground as a Christian soldier and conquer new territory for God. Read and study Ephesians 6:10-18
  6. Although Satan is ‘a’ Commander-in-Chief – he is not ‘THE’ Commander in Chief of the universe. God is, and you’re in His army! Christian weaponry is not carnal. (2Corinthians 10:4-5)
  7. Humbly, in the fear of God, march forward joyfully promoting peace through Jesus Christ alone.

As Paul commences the section on Christian Warfare, he starts with these encouraging and uplifting words:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armour of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11

In closing – don’t be paranoid or negative about the future. Always remember: “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” 1John 4:4
