When they saw the star they rejoiced … when … they saw the young child … they worshipped. Matthew 2:10, 11 KJV
When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy …. they saw the Child …. they … worshiped Him. Matthew 2:10-12 NASB
Common sense took the wise men to the court of Herod to look for the new born King. But the Word of God and the star directed them to the place where He was to be found. In contrast to the chief priests and scribes, who knew the doctrines, these “magi” were marked by devotion and diligence.
Herod never knew that the men who stood before him as gifts of great value. He viewed them as people he could use. Herod thought he could manipulate them for his own ends; God protected them and His Son from the plots of the wicked King.
Questions to consider:
- The wise men rejoiced at the appearing of the star; but they worshiped when they saw Christ. What is the difference between rejoicing at God’s help in our lives, and worshiping God Himself?
- Four times in Matthew 2 we read of, “The young child and His mother.” Why is the order given this way?
- What are some of the implications of the fact that they “worshiped Him” (verse 11)?
They searched for Christ , found him then worshiped him. Oh that people would do that today. Satan dangles the pleasures of this world to distract them from realizing their spiritual need of Salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord says” Come Unto Me and I will give you rest”, as many as received him to them gave he the power to become the Sons of God. Praise The Lord the Gospel still goes forth and precious souls are being saved for eternity. My son Byron has cancer and he refuses to come to Christ may the Holy Spirit convict him of his sin and save his precious soul. A concerned father.
