Redacted and unredacted have become familiar adjectives in common parlance. At one time, it seemed to be a word used mostly by lawyers and courts of law. If you are guilty or someone you love and respect is suspected of wrong-doing, the more details of an incriminating nature that are hidden, obscured or withheld, the greater your relief will be and the less shame you will experience. You are hoping for a redacted report.
On the other hand, if you want justice to be done and you suspect someone else is guilty, then you want all the facts and the evidence on the table. You feel nothing should be hidden or obscured from the scrutiny of judging eyes. You argue for transparency and full disclosure. You are hoping for an unredacted report of the facts.
Not to minimize the significance of these discussions as they occur from time to time in social, political or legal settings, have you ever thought about it spiritually and personally? It’s one thing to demand truth and transparency from others, but when it comes close-to-home, how much of my personal life would I want exposed? What redactions would I really be hoping for? If I stood before the One to whom I’m ultimately accountable, what details of my history would I like to have redacted?

Centuries of facts outlining not only the behaviour, but the corrupt intent of human hearts has been compiled into one holy book. The evidence points to wide-spread violations of God’s perfect and righteous laws in every generation, every ethnicity and under every social condition. No one is exempt – including me and you.
Let’s face it – there are reasons why people attack the holy book and its author and those He used to document the mountains of historical evidence; and, to record His gracious interventions; and, to deliver His conclusions; and, to offer you full acquittal and complete forgiveness.
Why do people attack the Bible and its author and agents? If one can undermine the integrity of the report by questioning the character of the author or the credibility of His writers or the reliability of the evidence, then one feels less guilt and less vulnerable.
Remember – on the spiritual level, you are not dealing with the Court of Public Opinion. On secular matters in society – our attacks, our arguments and our rebuttals may sway opinions and influence outcomes.
If one can justify, in their own mind, that God’s report is a disgraceful work of pure dark fiction, then one might think they will escape consequences or judgment. It might work that way horizontally – but not vertically!
No one outsmarts God. Here is God’s informed summary conclusion about the human-heart condition:
… the entire world is guilty before God… Romans 3:19
… everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23
Guilty but Full Righteous Exoneration Available
Many are not willing to accept God’s conclusions because it has personal ramifications. Therefore, they resist and reject. But those who accept God’s evidence and verdict do the right thing – they look for mercy. And thank God, for them there’s awesome news.
Get this: God provides full acquittal, complete forgiveness and freedom from any and every penalty the moment you place your personal trust or faith in Jesus Christ.
Read this encouraging excerpt from Romans Chapter 3:
We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. (23) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. (24) Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. (25) For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, shedding His blood … [God] Himself is fair and just, and He declares sinners to be right in His sight when they believe in Jesus. (27) Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law (i.e. Ten Commandments). It is based on faith.
