Will our voices get hoarse singing at the non-stop eternal hymn sing around the Throne? Will we run out of hymns to sing? Who will be playing the harps? Will their thumbs get sore or will they take turns? According to 1 Corinthians 6 it seems like our eternity with Christ will be more – much more than one big hymn-sing.  Paul asked the Corinthian believers:

Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? … Do you not know that we are to judge angels? 1Corinthians 6:2-3

There is much that we don’t know about our eternal future – probably because we wouldn’t be able to comprehend it.  Yes, there will be singing.  (Revelation 15:3 to quote only one reference!)  The worship of our Lord Jesus Christ will be a chief and awesome activity. But there will be serving (Revelation 22:3), reigning and ruling (2 Timothy 2:12, Revelation 22:5).  It also seems we will have fellowship with each other. In Matthew 17:3 Moses and Elijah were together when they talked to the Lord Jesus.  So, we will get to talk with each other and with Him!

We will be administrators in His eternal Kingdom – not just singers!

When Satan strutted his stuff before the eyes of the Lord Jesus and pulled out all the stops in an attempt to wow Him and tempt Him, Luke used an interesting phrase. Satan took Jesus up to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in only “a moment of time.” (Luke 4:5) Satan’s best. His showcase. He said: “All these things will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:9) Satan’s wow-show ended abruptly after a ‘moment of time.’  How totally unlike the Lord’s showcase!

Dear Christian, are you in danger of falling down over something Satan is dangling before your eyes? Don’t go for it! It will be short-lived and cause you deep sorrow and bitter regret.  The curtain will fall quickly on his big show.

Contrast Satan’s big display case with what the Lord has in store for you. Read this carefully:

By grace you have been saved … and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might SHOW the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:5-7

It will take the eternal ages for the Tour Guide to point out to us the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. To point out – is the meaning of the word ‘show’ in the verse above. An eternal tour of His abundance awaits us!  Lots to do, lots to see, lots to enjoy.

No, we won’t be twiddling our thumbs in Heaven. And we will never be bored. We will be on one constant high, so to speak – never to be discouraged, depressed, depleted or despondent again. Totally and joyfully engaged in His Eternal Kingdom.

Aren’t you thankful you are saved? May the Lord help us to be faithful and to learn as much as we can in His training school today in preparation for reigning with Him.

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.

Warmly in Christ
