So much is contained in the statement of the soldiers: “Never man spake like this man!” His words were unique from many standpoints. The Psalmist celebrated the fact that His lips were full of grace and truth. That alone set Him apart from all others. Truth without harshness; grace without compromise. Never a word to be recalled or refined! Nothing which could have been said in a better, more fitting manner ever came from His lips.

They Revealed His Wisdom
In what an artless manner He answered all the challenges of Scribes, Pharisees, and Sadducees. In the end, their mouths were shut, and they left, defeated foes with no words to answer Him. Their many questions which He answered were met by His one concerning David’s Son and Lord, which none of them could answer. Time and again men left marveling at His words and wisdom.
They were for the Welfare of others
But what was so unique about His words was that they were always intended for the good of the listener. It was not merely that He had the wisdom and skill to return the perfect repartee, or that He had the perfect “put-down” for His foes. Every answer, rebuke, reply, or probing question, if faced honestly, would have led to spiritual blessing. He was not concerned with winning arguments but with winning people, souls for His Father. Never man spoke like this!
Imagine having the wisdom and skill to silence any foe and yet choosing to answer in such a way that your bitterest enemy would 
receive blessing through your reply.
They Revealed a Surrendered Will
Draw near and listen to the sacred words which wing their way heavenward: “Not my will but Thine be done.” Others had learned to submit, some by bitter experience. He submitted throughout His life. And now as He faced the greatest cost to submission, He is unchanged, undeterred. No man ever faced the hour which He faced and willingly entered it totally yielded to His Father’s will. Some, when faced with grave dangers, had steeled themselves to the battle. But He entered it with words on His lips which no man had ever spoken.
They Announced a Completed Work
“It is finished” must rank as the most important words which ever were uttered on earth and whichever echoed through the courts of heaven above. No man before had ever finished this work. Here was a work so vast in its scope, so demanding in its claims, so enormous in its burden, that no one had even suggested a mere mortal could undertake it. Elijah whose work was significant but not anything like His Master’s confessed, “It is enough.” Moses complained, “It is too much!” (Num 11:14). But only One could say, “Finished!” Never man spake like this Man.
Consider:
Look just at the well-known exchange of Luke 20 and notice the answers of the Lord Jesus and how they were calculated to awaken consciences and bring blessing.
