Not too many people live in Resolute, Nunavut, in northern Canada. Under 200. The Inuit people call the ‘city’ Qausuittuq which means: the place with no dawn. Because of its northern location on the globe, it has three months of non-stop darkness 24/7 and another three months of the year where there is continuous daytime 24/7. Round-the-clock darkness can be depressing for weeks on end. But not everyone likes round-the-clock light either – living for many weeks with no night. Their tired, weary, stressed-out bodies and minds would like to just fall asleep and rest without any sunbeams penetrating their rooms.
Many – maybe you – woke up this morning, but it was still night. Still dark. Still fear. Still grief. Still pain. Still bleak. Still sickness. Still alone. Still heaviness.
There is a place in eternity of eternal night and thankfully, another place of eternal light. Those who experience eternal night will eternally crave eternal light. But those who experience eternal light will never long for another dark night. Nor will there ever be another unexpected dark night for them. Back-up and re-read that last sentence again.
There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:5
Perhaps you can’t imagine, just now, dwelling in a place where there is no night. Your tired-out body, your grief-stricken heart, and your weary and fatigued mind craves to shut-down for a few hours in a dark room. Such is life on this planet.
You may recall that the Lord Jesus once visited this place too. He knew what it was to have a heavy heart. He experienced the tears that gush from an inner well; He felt them running down His cheeks. He wept. While others slept, there were nights when He did not sleep. You have had some of them too.
There were other times when Jesus fell asleep as soon as He got in the little boat, while others stayed awake. Weary and thirsty, one 
afternoon, He sat beside a well. Yes, He was here. He experienced the sunrises and the sunsets. He experienced the heat of the sun at noon and the blackness of the starless nights in the middle of a storm. He was here. Infinitely worse, He experienced the darkness of Calvary. Where? Here – on our planet.
But child of God, if your present is dark, your future is bright. Trials and storms and pandemics are temporary. Eternity is forever. Then, you will have a body that will never experience weariness or fatigue again. No virus or disease to ever afflict you again. You will have a mind that will never fret or fear again. Completely gone will be the mental tortures of thinking about the worst-case scenarios. You will have a heart that will never ever ache or break again – yes, never! Please just whisper out loud right now: “Never again.”
Craving a dark room of solitude where you can lock your door and bury your head in a pillow – those days will be over forever. In store for you, dear child of God – despite your setbacks and failures is -an unending day of boundless energy; endless tranquility; sinless productivity. Your service for the Lord throughout the eternal ages will be fruitful without interruption – never to be marred by sin or minimized by failure again.
No night there. No darkness there. No clouds there. No coldness there. Such is the character of the place where the Lord God is – where the Lamb is and where we will be forever. No night there.
