And the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6 KJV
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him. Isaiah 53:6 NASB
Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 1Peter 5:7 NASB
Isaiah 53 is a portion of Scripture which has led many to rest in the person of the Lord Jesus. Countless souls have come to verse 6 and rested themselves on its wondrous truth.
The Lord Jesus was the only One capable of bearing our sins and satisfying the demands of the throne of God. No sin and no sinner have ever been outside the efficacy of His work. Taking the words of Hebrews 7 slightly out of context yet within the sphere of truth, “He is able to save to the uttermost all them that come” (7:25).
Peter personalizes it, even more, when he wrote, “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree (1 Pet 2:24).
On Him almighty vengeance fell
Enough to sink a world to hell …
Peter was writing to believers, likely a mixture of Jewish and Gentile converts, who were passing through a time of trial and persecution. Among the many encouragements he provided in his first epistle is the great truth of chapter 5:7: “He has a deep interest in you.” He exhorted the believers to cast all their anxious cares “on Him” because of His personal interest in each one of them.
The One Who was capable of bearing all our iniquities is also able to bear all our anxieties. The love displayed at Calvary is the same love resident in His heart on the throne. The strength to bear our sins and their weight on the cross is the same He possesses to carry our sorrows.
God, in His wondrous grace, provided One competent to bear our sins in their totality on a cross. He now has provided a Shepherd/High Priest Who is able to bear our cares. His invitation is genuine and sincere. We had nothing to do with casting our sins upon Him; that was the work of God. But it is our responsibility to cast our cares upon Him.
Consider:
Look at the varied ways Peter presents the Lord Jesus Christ in each chapter of his epistle: The Lamb, Shepherd and Bishop, Example, Sufferer, Victor, Creator, and Burden bearer.
This was a precious meditation because it is the place where I finally found peace . . . not in my walk down the aisle of a church (twice), not my prayer in the prayer room, not in my baptism, not in my tears, not in my resolutions to change. What a blessing to find that He is MORE than enough when I could never do enough . . . His sufficiency for my deficiency; what a marvelous exchange!
Thank you!
